Every Gummi line is built for a different job. Some take up misalignment and vibration between two shafts, others carry heavy loads at low rpm, give a motor a soft start or smooth out the torque pulses of a combustion engine. The data on each card is taken from the tables in the catalog for that line.

  Type A: flexible tire coupling

  This is the Gummi coupling most buyers know. Its rubber tire flexes to take up angular, radial and axial misalignment and cushions torsional shock. With two standard hubs, sizes go from A-20 (38 Nm, bores to 20 mm) up to A-400/400 (168,750 Nm). Variants you can order: integral hub (CI), spacer type for back-pull-out pumps (ES), axial hub (CX), high-speed (AV), with brake pulley or brake disc, with torque limiter, and flywheel-mount.

  BR line: high torque, low speed

  Built for slow, heavily loaded drives. It works on the same flexible-center principle and needs no lubrication. Sizes go from BR-100, rated 4,080 Nm nominal with bores to 85 mm, up to BR-320, rated 150,400 Nm with bores to 300 mm. Data comes from the BR catalog in the Gummi resource center.

  TLB: Type A and BR hubs for Taper Lock bushings

  These hubs take a standard taper bushing, so you don't have to machine a bore. Bushing sizes range from 1008, for shafts up to 25 mm on A-20 and A-25, to 5050, for shafts up to 125 mm on A-120 through A-200 and BR-150 through BR-180. Order the taper bushing separately: it does not come with the coupling.

  VN, VND and VNDD: semi-flexible couplings

  A jaw-type coupling with a flexible insert held by a steel ring. In the VN, one jaw hub mates with a hub that carries the ring. The VND has one additional hub, and the VNDD has additional hubs at both ends. Sixteen sizes are offered, starting at 170 (7,200 Nm max torque) and going up to 1200 (1,288,800 Nm).

  M line: gear coupling with nylon sleeve

  A molded nylon sleeve engages two toothed steel hubs. The result is compact and torsionally stiff, needs no lubrication and allows free axial float.   An all-steel gear coupling, heat treated. The line covers single-engagement (ADS-A) and double-engagement (AD-A) designs, mill-motor versions for tapered shafts (ADSMM-A and ADMM-A), compact continuous-sleeve types (ASC-X and ASC-Y) and the ADDF-A series in cast steel.   Two steel rings enclose an inflated rubber chamber that soaks up torque pulsation from combustion engines, reciprocating compressors and pumps, and mills. Sizing a Gummi coupling

In the A, BR and VNDD catalogs, sizing begins with nominal torque: Tn [Nm] = 9550 × P [kW] × SF ÷ rpm, where P is the motor power and SF the service factor. SF is set by the type of driver and by the load, which ranges from uniform to extreme. Pick a coupling rated above that torque that also fits both shaft diameters. Tell us the power, rpm, driven machine and shaft sizes, and we'll help you select the model.
