Sealing washers

A sealing washer is a washer-shaped seal that closes off the gap in an assembly, keeping lubricant in and dust, water or chips out. It suits tight spaces where a compact seal makes sense. To choose one, define the shaft and housing dimensions, the available width and the medium being sealed.

SKF uses the Z series. The number after the Z is the size, and a trailing letter marks the version, so one size can appear with or without a suffix, as with Z 008 and Z 008 F. Other examples include Z 005 F, Z 006 F, Z 007 and Z 009. Always ask for the complete part number, final letter included.

Typical locations are gearboxes, electric motors, pumps, machine tools and power transmission equipment. They are often paired with a radial shaft seal: the seal handles the shaft, and the washer adds a second barrier against dirt from outside.
