Stainless steel deep groove ball bearings

A stainless steel deep groove ball bearing is a single-row ball bearing built from stainless steel. It carries moderate radial and axial loads, and you specify it when corrosion is what wears out standard bearings: frequent washdowns, humidity, steam, chemicals or salt air. Typical users are food and beverage, chemical and pharmaceutical plants, water treatment facilities and any machine that gets pressure-washed.

In SKF part numbers, the leading W stands for stainless steel and what follows is the standard metric designation. Take W 6000-2RS1 and W 6001-2RS1: 60 is the series and the final two digits are the size code, where 00 means a 10 mm bore and 01 means 12 mm. A 2RS1 suffix means a rubber contact seal on each side; 2Z, as in W 6000-2Z, means two metal shields. Part numbers carrying an extra suffix, such as W 6000-2RS1/VP311 and W 6000-2Z/VT127, are special executions in the same size.

The closure is the main decision, and the environment drives it. Contact seals keep out more water and dirt; shields run with less friction at higher speeds. For washdown duty, seals are the normal pick. Keep in mind that a stainless bearing has less load capacity than a chrome steel bearing with the same dimensions, so check the load and speed of your equipment before you order.
