SONL split pillow block housings

An SONL split pillow block housing is a cast iron housing divided into a base and a cap, used to mount bearings on drive shafts. Lift the cap and the bearing is right there, with no need to remove the shaft, which shortens downtime on equipment that runs continuously. You choose one by shaft diameter, the bearing it holds, the sealing arrangement and how it bolts to the structure.

SKF part numbers in this line, such as SOFN 218 AL, SOFN 224 BF, SOFN 232 BL or SOFN 234 BF, are built from the series name, a size number and a variant suffix. The size number refers to the housing and the bearing it takes, not to the shaft diameter, and the trailing letters define the version. Two housings that share a base number can still differ in those letters, so the full part number is what identifies the part.

Conveyors, mills, mixers, pumps and industrial fans use these housings wherever the bearing has to be serviced without removing the whole shaft. They are fitted with end covers and locating rings to suit the sealing and axial location the arrangement needs. Before assembly, confirm that the housing, bearing and adapter sleeve are compatible.
