SN split pillow block housings

An SN split pillow block housing is a cast iron housing divided into two halves that holds a bearing on a shaft in industrial equipment. Lift off the cap and you reach the bearing without pulling the shaft or dismantling the drive. It is the traditional series for spherical roller bearings, which absorb misalignment from installation and from shaft deflection.

An SN housing number identifies the bearing inside, not the shaft size. On SN506 (NTN), 5 is the series and 06 is the bore code: the bearing bore is 30 mm and, with an adapter sleeve, the housing fits a 25 mm shaft. The same logic holds for SN507, SN508 or SN510, and for SKF's SN 3030, SN 3034 or SN 3040, where the number refers to the housing size and the bearing it takes. Covers, seals and locating rings are ordered separately and determine the sealing and the axial location.

When you specify an SN housing, look at the shaft diameter, the bearing and sleeve, how the base is fastened, the environment and the clearance around the equipment. Line shafts, conveyors, fans, pumps, mixers and process machinery use them wherever a shaft runs on several supports and must be serviced without moving the machine.
