Description
NTN SN508 belongs to split plummer block housing, part of our Bearing housings range. Tell us how many you need by WhatsApp or email and we'll get back to you promptly with a quote for SN508 and any equivalents.
The SN500 and SN600 families from NTN are split plummer block housings. Because the housing separates into two halves, a bearing can be fitted or examined with the shaft left in place. They carry self-aligning ball bearings and spherical roller bearings that have a tapered bore and are secured to the shaft by an adapter sleeve. MR Industrial Accessories supplies these housings to maintenance and purchasing teams throughout the United States and Latin America.
Reading the code is the quickest way to identify a housing. The letters SN indicate a split pillow block. The first digit of the number points to the bearing series, and the last two digits give the bore code. Take SN506: the 5 means a normal-width bearing series, and 06 is the bore code, so 06 × 5 = 30 mm is the bearing bore. Fitted with an adapter sleeve, that same bearing sits on a 25 mm shaft. The SN600 range works the same way but is sized for series 3 bearings, which have a heavier cross-section. The housing number never equals the shaft diameter.
A given size takes self-aligning ball bearings and spherical roller bearings of matching bore code and tapered bore, each paired with its own adapter sleeve. Where the bearing must stay fixed axially, locating rings are fitted on both sides. Leave them out and the bearing can slide, allowing it to follow shaft expansion; this is the normal setup at the non-driving end.
Sealing comes from the shaft openings, using double-lip, felt or labyrinth seals chosen according to temperature, speed and contamination level, plus an end cover where the housing closes off the shaft end. Grease is the standard lubricant and is added through the fitting in the cap.
Typical installations include belt conveyors, fans, pumps, mills, screens and long line shafts in mining, agriculture, cement and food processing. The base bolts to the frame, so verify that the mounting surface is flat and aligned before the caps are tightened; a base that is twisted puts extra load on the bearing.
SN housing dimensions follow a standard, which means an NTN SN unit can replace a comparable housing from another maker on the same frame. Confirm the shaft height, the bolt-hole spacing and the sealing arrangement. Send the housing or bearing part number by WhatsApp or email and the team will quote it and help with equivalents.

Frequently asked questions
- How do I interpret the number on an SN506 housing?
- It tells you which bearing the housing takes: series 5 with bore code 06, which is 30 mm. Using an adapter sleeve, the SN506 mounts on a 25 mm shaft.
- Is the bearing supplied with the housing?
- No. The split housing is quoted on its own, separately from the bearing, adapter sleeve and seals. Send the bearing part number and we will quote the full assembly.
- How does SN500 differ from SN600?
- SN600 takes series 3 bearings, which have a larger cross-section and load capacity for the same shaft diameter, so the housing itself is bigger and more robust than the matching SN500.
