The GUMMI DF is a flexible coupling from the Type A series that includes a brake disc, so it transmits torque between two shafts and provides a braking surface at the same point. It suits drives where rotation must be stopped as well as transmitted, such as overhead cranes, conveyors, winches and machine tools. In the GUMMI Type A range, the DF code identifies the version fitted with a brake disc. The elastic element absorbs vibration and compensates for misalignment between the shafts, while the disc gives a caliper or drum brake a track to act on. This arrangement is chosen when the brake belongs to the drive itself.

Typical duties include overhead cranes, winches, inclined conveyors, lifting equipment and material handling machinery. It is also used where braking has to act directly on the output shaft, which can simplify the design and reduce the number of components in the assembly.

Selection depends on the torque to be transmitted, the speed, the shaft diameters and the nature of the load. The DF variant is specified whenever a brake forms part of the system. During installation, align the shafts within the required tolerance and inspect the condition of the elastic element.
