SKF CARB toroidal roller bearings

An SKF CARB bearing has a single row of long rollers with a slight crown. It brings together two features normally found in separate bearing types: it self-aligns the way a spherical roller bearing does, and it lets the shaft shift axially within the bearing, as a cylindrical roller bearing does. That makes it the usual choice for the non-locating position on long shafts or on shafts that grow with heat.

Size charts by series

The leading C and what comes after

Every designation begins with C. In C 2215 K the digits give the dimension series and the size, read the same way as on spherical roller bearings, and K means a tapered bore for mounting on a sleeve. C 2216 has no K, so its bore is cylindrical.

Further blocks can follow. C 2215 K/C3 is that same base with a block after the slash, while C 2206 TN9 adds letters after the size. Some versions in the line also carry a V. Every combination is its own part number, so copy the full designation with its slashes and spaces.

The non-locating position

On a shaft supported at two points, one bearing holds the axial position and the other lets the shaft expand. The CARB belongs in the second spot. Because the axial movement happens inside the bearing, the outer ring can stay fixed in the housing. Keep that in mind if you swap a spherical roller bearing for a CARB or vice versa: matching main dimensions do not mean the housing arrangement stays the same.

The bearing tolerates misalignment and axial shift only within limits set by its clearance and size. At installation, the rings have to be positioned relative to each other for the expansion expected. If the old bearing failed at one end of the rollers, check that positioning before fitting the new one.

What we need to quote a CARB

Send the full designation and the quantity. Tell us whether the bore is tapered or cylindrical, and if it mounts on a sleeve, include the sleeve designation and the shaft diameter. Let us know the machine, the bearing at the opposite end of the shaft and whether the housing is split. If the CARB replaces another bearing type, send both designations so we can review the arrangement.

Can a CARB take the place of a spherical roller bearing?

In the non-locating position, yes, if the dimensions match, but the arrangement changes. Review it first.

Does it take axial load?

That is not its job: it lets the shaft move. The bearing at the other end carries the axial load.

What does the K mean?

A tapered bore, for mounting on a sleeve or on a tapered shaft seat.

Key series

SKF CARB Roller Bearings C 2216, C 2314, C 3040

SKF CARB roller bearings are self-aligning radial units with one row of rollers. They handle combined loads and compensate angular misalignment, which suits equipment where shaft deflection or mounting errors are present. MR Industrial Accessories supplies the SKF line and can help you confirm the right part number.

Example part numbers:C 2215C 2216C 2217C 2218C 2220

SKF CARB Roller Bearings C 2215 K, C 2216 K, C 2220 K

When shaft deflection or alignment errors are part of the application, SKF CARB roller bearings provide a self-aligning solution. Their toroidally profiled rollers handle combined loads and compensate for angular misalignment. MR Industrial Accessories LLC supplies this line to customers in the United States and several Latin American countries, with support to select the correct suffix.

Example part numbers:C 2215 KC 2216 KC 2217 KC 2218 KC 2220 K

SKF CARB Toroidal Roller Bearings

SKF CARB bearings are self-aligning toroidal roller bearings. They pair the load capacity of a roller bearing with the ability to compensate for misalignment. This makes them a practical choice where shaft deflection or mounting errors cannot be avoided, such as in belt or chain drives. MR Industrial Accessories supplies the SKF line to maintenance and purchasing teams across the United States and Latin America.
