SKF SNH split pillow block housings: part numbers

SKF SNH housings are split pillow block housings for bearings mounted on a sleeve or straight on the shaft. Because they open in two halves, you can drop in a shaft that is already assembled and inspect the bearing without taking anything else apart. Our catalog lists them beside the SNL housings, the newer series, so find out which of the two your machine uses before ordering spares or accessories.

Two numbers in one designation

In SNH 507-606, the letters name the series, and the pair of numbers means one housing body fits two bearing sizes from different series. It is neither two housings nor a shaft range. SNH 505 and SNH 509, on the other hand, carry a single number because no second option exists at that size.

A block after a slash may follow the size, as in SNH 507-606/VZ2P3. It marks a specific version of the same housing and belongs to the part number. As with any split housing, the designation does not cover the bearing, the sleeve or the seals.

Before you replace it

The base and cap are machined together as a matched pair, so never combine them with halves from another housing, even one of the same size. If either part is damaged, replace the whole housing. The factory marks on the base and cap let you put them back together in the original position.

To make sure the new housing drops into the old one's place, measure the shaft center height above the base, the distance between the mounting bolt holes and the bolt diameter. If you are moving from SNH to another series, also confirm that your seals and rings belong to that series.

Getting a quote

Send us the designation cast into the housing, including any final block, and the quantity. Add the bearing designation, the sleeve designation and the shaft diameter, and tell us whether the shaft runs through or ends inside the housing and whether the position is locating or non-locating. From that we can put together the complete list: housing, seals, rings and end cover.

Is SNH 507-606 two separate housings?

No. It is one housing body that takes two bearing sizes from different series.

Can I replace just the cap?

We don't recommend it. Base and cap are a matched pair, machined together.

Can an SNL replace an SNH?

Check the center height, base and bolt holes, and use the accessories that belong to the series you install.

SNH SKF Split Plummer Block Housing

For maintenance teams working on shafts that are hard to reach, the SNH SKF split plummer block housing offers a practical answer: the housing separates into two halves, so the bearing can be placed or removed without pulling the shaft out of the machine. That keeps repair time down on equipment where a full teardown is not an option.

SKF SNH Split Housing

The SKF SNH series is a split plummer block housing designed to simplify bearing installation and replacement without removing the shaft from the equipment. SKF SNH Split Plummer Block Housing

A split plummer block housing from the SKF SNH series holds shafts in place while letting you service the bearing without pulling the shaft out of the machine. The housing comes apart into two halves, so it fits bearings with either a tapered or a cylindrical bore. That makes it a practical choice when space around the equipment is tight and maintenance windows are short.
