The DBH 8870 is a radial shaft seal that closes the gap between a rotating shaft and its housing, keeping lubricant in and contaminants out. It measures 17 mm at the shaft, 35 mm at the housing bore and 10 mm in height, and its Lx design is a single lip with a spring for lubricated rotating service.

In the DBH line, the number 8870 identifies this seal. The three values to confirm on the equipment are shaft 17 mm (d), housing 35 mm (D) and height 10 mm (h). A few tenths of a millimeter of difference in any of them is enough to compromise the seal, so measure the shaft and the bore before installation.

You will find seals of this size in centrifugal pumps, electric motors, gear reducers, mixers, compressors and machine tools, as well as in gearboxes and conveyor rollers. Their job is to hold oil or grease inside and to keep dust, water and particles away from bearings and bushings.

When choosing a seal, the three dimensions are only the starting point. The lubricant, the operating temperature and the shaft speed also matter. The Lx design suits shafts that turn continuously with a supply of lubricant. Before pressing it in, clean the housing and remove burrs, lubricate the lip, and use a tool that will not nick the sealing edge. A shaft with grooves or wear can prevent a correct seal even when the dimensions match.
