The DBH 8869 is a radial shaft seal built to keep lubricant in and contamination out where a shaft turns inside a housing. It measures 16 mm at the shaft, 25 mm at the housing bore and 5.00 mm in height, and it seats in the housing while its flexible lip rides against the rotating shaft. You will find this type of seal in gearboxes, pumps, electric motors and other power transmission equipment, where it protects bearings from dust and moisture.
This seal follows the Lx design, so it combines a sealing lip with a retaining spring. Read the three figures in order: shaft 16 mm, housing bore 25 mm, height 5.00 mm. The lip is an elastomer that resists oils and greases and holds its sealing action during continuous rotation, while the metal outer case grips the housing bore and makes press fitting straightforward.

Food, chemical and automotive plants also use this seal when the lip material suits the fluid being retained. Coat the lip with lubricant, then drive the seal in with a tool that contacts the metal case rather than the lip. Rotation speed, operating temperature and the fluid involved all affect seal selection. If the shaft is already worn, an offset lip or a repair sleeve is worth considering.
