The DBH 8727 is a radial shaft seal that keeps oil or grease contained between a rotating shaft and its housing. It measures 40 mm at the shaft, 56 mm at the housing and 9 mm in height, and it uses the Mx design. You will find it in gearboxes, pumps, electric motors and transmission equipment. This seal follows the Mx design. Its three key dimensions are: shaft 40 mm (d), housing 56 mm (D) and height 9 mm (h). The sealing lip contacts the shaft while the outer diameter presses into the housing. As a replacement component in rotating equipment, it holds lubricant in and helps keep dust and water out.

Typical locations include gearboxes, centrifugal pumps, electric motors, rollers and transmission shafts. It also shows up in process equipment, industrial washing machines and agricultural machinery. Once the lip wears or the material loses elasticity, lubricant starts to escape. Replacing the seal at that point protects the bearing or bushing behind it.

Before installation, check that the shaft is free of burrs and marks and that the sealing surface is clean. Apply the same oil or grease used in the equipment to the lip. Press the seal in perpendicular to the housing, without striking the lip directly. If the shaft is worn, a seal with an additional spring may be a better choice.
