SKF HMV and HMVC hydraulic nuts

An SKF hydraulic nut is a tool, not a nut that stays on the shaft. You thread it onto the shaft or sleeve, connect a pump, and its annular piston pushes the bearing up the tapered seat with more force than a wrench can deliver. It serves for mounting and, with a withdrawal sleeve, for dismounting as well. This catalog line lists both the nuts and their seal spares.

The nut, its thread and its seal kit

In HMV 10E, HMV is the metric thread series and the number is the size, the same as on lock nuts that carry that number. HMVC 18E is the inch-thread series. The E belongs to the current designation of these nuts, so copy it.

Part numbers ending in a slash and a long number, such as HMV 10/233983, are not nuts but the spare seal kit for the piston of that size. Because the part number starts the same way, this is the most frequent mix-up in the line. Order the kit if your nut is leaking; order the designation with E if you need the tool.

What it takes to operate

The nut cannot work alone. It needs a pump, a hose and a pressure gauge, and for the most precise method a dial indicator to measure how far the bearing travels. Its thread has to match the shaft or sleeve; when it doesn't, adapters are used, and they have their own part numbers.

Piston stroke is limited. If the bearing has to move further than the nut allows, back the nut off and thread it on again. After each use, return the piston to its starting position and plug the connection. Most leaks come from seals damaged by dirt or by storing the nut with the piston extended.

What to send for a quote

Send the full designation and say whether you want the nut or the seal kit. If you are choosing the tool, give us the thread of the shaft or sleeve, in millimeters or inches, and the designations of the smallest and largest bearings you will mount. Let us know whether you already own a pump and what pressure it reaches, so we can confirm the connection.

Is HMV 10E the same as HMV 10/233983?

No. The first is the hydraulic nut and the second is its spare seal kit.

Does the hydraulic nut stay on the shaft?

No. It is a tool: you remove it and install the final lock nut.

Can HMV and HMVC be swapped?

No, their threads differ, one metric and one inch. Choose by the shaft or the sleeve.

Key series

SKF HMV …E Hydraulic Nut

When a bearing must be seated with an interference fit that a press or hammer cannot handle, the SKF HMV …E hydraulic nut provides a controlled alternative. It screws onto the shaft or adapter sleeve and uses oil pressure to expand the fitted component, so the seat surfaces stay undamaged. This nut belongs to the mounting tool family that MR Industrial Accessories LLC supplies to maintenance teams across the United States and several Latin American countries.

SKF HMVC …E Series Hydraulic Nut

For press-fit work on shafts and in housings, the SKF HMVC …E series hydraulic nut gives maintenance crews a controlled way to seat or release bearings and sleeves. Hydraulic pressure produces an even axial push, which helps protect the components being fitted and simplifies the job where space is tight. Workshops and plant maintenance departments use it when the work has to be done quickly and without risking the parts.
