SKF Speedi-Sleeve wear sleeves for seal surfaces

A Speedi-Sleeve from SKF is a stainless steel sleeve with a very thin wall that you press onto the shaft right where the seal lip runs. It restores a smooth sealing surface without pulling the shaft for regrinding. Use it when the old seal has cut a groove and a new seal would leak again. With a wall that thin, you can usually keep the same seal as before.

One number for each shaft range

Part numbers in this line are plain numbers, like 99049, 99050, 99052 and 99055. They carry no dimensions: each one matches a narrow band of shaft diameters, and you pick it from the diameter you measure. Neighboring numbers are not always neighboring sizes, so search by dimension first and confirm the part number after.

Each sleeve covers only a narrow range. On a shaft below that range the sleeve won't grip and will spin; above it, the sleeve won't go on or gets distorted. That is why measurement matters more here than for nearly any other sealing part, and a nominal diameter off the drawing won't do.

Measuring and installing

Measure the shaft on an undamaged spot next to the groove, at three positions turned from one another, and average the readings. Measure too from the shaft end to where the lip needs to sit, because the sleeve has to cover that zone. If the groove is deep, fill it before installing so the sleeve doesn't take on its shape.

Each sleeve comes with its own installation tool; tap it evenly until the sleeve is in place. A flange gives support while you install, and it can be broken off along a pre-cut line if it gets in the way later. A normal installation needs no heat or adhesive, and a sleeve that has been installed is not reused.

What to send for a sleeve quote

Send the sleeve number if you have it, and the quantity. If not, give us the shaft diameter with all three readings, the distance from the shaft end to the seal track and the part number of the seal that runs there. Tell us if the shaft has a keyway, a thread or a step the sleeve must slide past. With that we pick the part number and confirm that the seal can stay as it is.

Will I need a different seal size?

Usually not, since the wall is very thin. Confirm it with the final diameter and the seal you choose.

Can I read the diameter from the sleeve number?

Not directly. Every number covers a range of shaft sizes, so choose by measurement.

Will it fix any worn shaft?

It is meant for seal grooves on a shaft that is still on size. A shaft that is undersize or bent needs a different repair.
