SKF thrust ball bearings: part numbers and mounting

SKF thrust ball bearings are for positions where the load runs along the shaft. Each one is made of a shaft washer, a housing washer and a ball and cage assembly. To identify it, look at the whole stack; one loose washer does not describe the bearing. SKF keeps this line apart from deep groove ball bearings and from roller thrust bearings.

Size charts by series

Basic number versus added letters

The catalog lists 51100, 51101 and 51102. They share the 511 start, which marks the series, and the full number separates one part from the next. Don't turn these numbers into guessed sizes. Check them against the diameters and total height of the assembly you took out of the machine.

51130 M adds a letter group after the number. Keep it in your request rather than trimming it to 51130 or assuming it matches a part that looks alike. If the washers came apart during removal, gather their markings and photograph them together, so components from different positions don't get mixed.

Show where the thrust acts

Documented uses for this design include lifting mechanisms, rotary tables and some spindles. What helps most is its place in the assembly: show which washer seats on the shaft and which one sits against the housing, and add a wider photo that shows the order of the parts.

A radial bearing close by may do a different job, so don't mistake it for the thrust bearing just because both are on the same shaft. If the arrangement takes thrust in more than one direction, send the full exploded drawing. The general name thrust ball bearing does not tell us how the shaft is supported.

Define the assembly you need quoted

List the part number, quantity, bore, outside diameter and total height, and explain how you measured the height. Photograph both washers and the cage so it is clear how they fit together. Tell us the machine and where the bearing was installed. If you only need one component, say so plainly: knowing the assembly does not mean its parts can be ordered one by one.

Can one washer identify the thrust bearing?

It may give a marking or a size, but we still need the other components or the part number of the full assembly.

Will a deep groove ball bearing work instead?

The mounting arrangement and what the bearing does have to be checked. A single matching diameter is not enough.

Why do you ask for the assembly height?

It shows how much space the bearing takes in the mounting. Tell us whether you measured the full bearing or a single piece.

Key series

SKF Thrust Ball Bearings 51100 Series

SKF thrust ball bearings are built for axial loads acting in a single direction. Each bearing combines a shaft washer, a housing washer and a ball cage. They suit arrangements that call for axial rigidity and precision, including machine tool spindles, lathe faceplates and lifting mechanisms. MR Industrial Accessories supplies this line to customers in the United States and Latin America.

SKF thrust ball bearings series 511 M

SKF thrust ball bearings in the 511 M series are designed to handle axial loads in a single direction. They are found in gearboxes, pumps, and compressors where axial capacity and rigidity are required. The single-row ball arrangement and cylindrical bore shaft ring make mounting straightforward and support precise operation. MR Industrial Accessories supplies this series as part of its SKF bearing range.

SKF U Series Thrust Ball Bearings

For equipment that handles thrust in one direction, the SKF U series thrust ball bearing is a common choice. It supports predominantly axial loads at moderate speeds, making it suitable for gearboxes, pumps and other industrial machinery. MR Industrial Accessories LLC supplies this series as part of its SKF bearing line. If you need help matching a designation to your application, our team can assist.
