SKF spherical roller bearings in the 222 to 241 series

SKF spherical roller bearings handle radial load in positions where the shaft is not perfectly aligned with the housing. SKF lists them apart from self-aligning ball bearings, spherical roller thrust bearings and CARB bearings, because each construction does a different job in the arrangement, so keep those lines separate when you search. To pin down a part from this page, read the marking on the ring first, then work out what is mounted with it on the shaft.

Size charts by series

Series, size and suffix: read all three

Take 22220 E, 21311 E and 22310 E: they belong to three series, 222, 213 and 223 in that order. The digits after the series point to the size, and the closing letter belongs to the part number as much as the digits do. Asking for "a 222 series bearing" without the rest of the code does not identify anything.

Most of the SKF spherical roller bearings in our catalog are in the 222 and 223 series. The 230, 231, 232, 240, 241, 239 and 213 series come next, with part numbers like 23140 CC/C3W33.

A code such as 22228 CC/C3W33 carries letters and a slash after the digits. Write it out in the same order you read it on the ring. If two bearings are both called spherical roller bearings but the series or the suffix differs, compare the arrangements before treating one as a replacement for the other. When the marking is worn, take photos of the ring from several angles so the full sequence can be read before anyone suggests an alternative.

Where the position on the machine counts

Our SKF guide lists mills and crushers, paper machine dryer rolls and sugar mill equipment as typical uses. Knowing the application tells you what the position has to do, but it does not pick the part number. Two positions on the same machine can call for different bearings and different mounting parts.

On a dryer roll, say which end you are working on. On a mill, add a photo of the housing and the shaft section. If an adapter sleeve is part of the assembly, note its designation on its own line: the bearing designation says nothing about the parts that hold it on the shaft.

What to send so we quote the right assembly

Give us the marking on the bearing, the quantity, and the bore, outside diameter and width. Include photos of the bearing and its housing, and tell us the application and the position. If you also need a sleeve, a lock nut or seals, list each one with its own part number. Let us know whether you want the same version as before or want the mounting arrangement reviewed, because each request starts from different documentation.

Are spherical roller bearings and self-aligning ball bearings the same line?

No. SKF keeps them apart by construction, so keep that split in mind before you compare part numbers.

Does the housing part number tell me the bearing?

No, it only identifies the housing. Note the bearing marking and any sleeve designation separately.

Can I leave the suffix letters off?

No. They define the version you have. If a letter is hard to make out, send us a photo.

SKF 222 CC/C3W33 Spherical Roller Bearings

For plants dealing with shaft deflection or mounting misalignment, SKF 222 CC/C3W33 spherical roller bearings offer a self-aligning, double-row solution. The CC cage, C3 clearance, and W33 lubrication feature are all built into the part number. MR Industrial Accessories supplies this series to customers across the United States and Latin America.

SKF 222 CC/W33 Spherical Roller Bearings

The SKF 222 CC/W33 line covers self-aligning spherical roller bearings built around two rows of rollers. They handle heavy radial loads and tolerate angular misalignment, which suits shafts that flex or housings that are not perfectly aligned. MR Industrial Accessories supplies this line to maintenance and purchasing teams across the United States and Latin America.

SKF 222 Series CCK/C3W33 Spherical Roller Bearings

When a shaft and housing are not perfectly in line, the bearing has to absorb that misalignment while still carrying heavy radial load and a share of axial load. The SKF 222 series with CCK, C3 or C4 and W33 suffixes is built for exactly that duty: two rows of rollers, a self-aligning outer ring, a 1:12 tapered bore and a stamped steel cage.
