SKF deep groove ball bearings: series and part numbers

This page covers SKF deep groove ball bearings for rotating shafts. Angular contact, self-aligning and stainless steel ball bearings from SKF sit on their own pages. Keep that split in mind when you look for a replacement: calling a part a ball bearing tells you nothing about its internal design, the job of its position or how it is mounted.

Basic number first, then the full suffix

6205 is a 62 series designation, while 6310 comes from the 63 series: two separate part numbers, not two ways of writing one. Suffixes split things further. 6205-2RSH and 6205-2Z both start from 6205, yet the ending is what tells them apart, so it belongs in your request.

6004/C3 is built differently: basic number, slash, then an extra block. Copy the marking exactly as it appears, hyphens, slashes and letters included. If you only compare the first digits you can miss a different variant. To confirm a replacement, check the designation against the dimensions of the bearing you removed and where it sat in the machine. One photo of the face will not show all of that.

Pin down the bearing position

In this catalog, the SKF guide links this line to motors, generators and plastics processing machinery. On that kind of equipment, tell us which shaft and which position you are working on. If the machine has a drive-end and an opposite-end bearing, treat them separately: sharing a motor does not mean they share a part number.

Angular contact bearings call for a different look at the mounting arrangement. If your parts drawing calls for that construction, go to its own line first instead of picking a deep groove ball bearing because it looks the same from outside.

What to send for the replacement

Give us the full part number and quantity, plus bore, outside diameter and width measured on the part itself. Include a clear photo of the marking and another of the sides. Tell us the machine, what the shaft does and the bearing position, and add the parts drawing reference if you have it. If the bearing keeps failing, note what you saw at teardown, and keep the part number in the request rather than a loose label like motor bearing.

Can I just ask for a 6205?

Only if nothing follows the number. Letters or an extra block after it are part of the variant, so copy them as well.

Are stainless steel versions covered here?

No, SKF stainless steel bearings have their own subcategory. Check the full part number to tell them apart before you compare sizes.

Is the machine name enough to identify the bearing?

It gives us context. We still need the bearing position and either the part number or the dimensions.

SKF Deep Groove Ball Bearings 6000 6200 6300

A deep groove ball bearing is the workhorse of rotating equipment. It handles radial load plus a degree of axial load in either direction, tolerates high speed, and keeps a simple construction that makes it the least expensive option among ball bearings.

SKF 60 Series Deep Groove Ball Bearings

SKF 60 series deep groove ball bearings are thin-section components designed to handle radial and axial loads in both directions. They come with Z or 2Z shields that help keep lubricant in and particles out. Typical uses include electric motors, pumps, fans, and light-duty transmissions. MR Industrial Accessories supplies these bearings and assists you in selecting the right part number.

SKF Deep Groove Ball Bearing Series 60

SKF Series 60 deep groove ball bearings are single-row bearings built to handle radial and axial loads in industrial equipment. Their deep raceway grooves support smooth running at higher speeds. The RS1 and 2RS1 suffixes tell you whether sealing is on one side or on both, which affects how well the bearing keeps out contaminants and holds its lubricant. Typical installations include electric motors, pumps, fans and transmissions. MR Industrial Accessories supplies this brand to customers in the United States and Latin America.
