SKF cam followers and support rollers: KR, KRV, NATR and NUTR

SKF cam followers and support rollers are bearings with a heavy outer ring built to roll straight on a track, such as a cam, a guide or a rail, with no housing around them. The line has two families that mount in different ways, and the first letters of the part number show which is which. The first question to answer is whether the roller rides on a pin that belongs to the machine or brings its own threaded stud.

Stud type or pin mounted

KR 16 PP and KRV 16 PP are cam followers with a threaded stud that bolts to the structure with a nut. Here the number is the roller outside diameter. The V marks the full complement version, with no cage and a full set of needles: the outside is the same, the part number is not.

NATR 5 PP and NUTR 15 A are support rollers: they have an inner ring and fit on a pin or shaft in the machine, so the number is the bore. NATR and NUTR differ in internal construction, and NUTR 15 X shows that the last letter also separates executions of one size. Whatever the type, copy the whole designation.

The track and how the roller runs

A cam follower makes line contact, and the machine track wears along with it. Look at the cam or rail before you replace the roller: a grooved or stepped track will destroy the new one. Also note whether the roller's outer surface is crowned or cylindrical, since each one spreads the load differently when the roller tilts slightly.

On stud type rollers, the load reaches the structure through an overhung stud. The thread, stud diameter and stud length have to match the mounting hole, and the nut is tightened to the specified torque. Many have a grease point at the end of the stud; if the old roller ran dry, check that passage.

What to send with your inquiry

Send the full designation and the quantity. With no part number, measure the roller outside diameter and width, plus the bore or the stud diameter, thread and length, depending on the type. Tell us whether the outer surface is crowned or flat, what it runs against and how it is lubricated. One photo from the front and one from the side let us tell the series apart.

Can KR and KRV be swapped?

They share outside dimensions but not the internal construction. Stay with the one on the machine or review the application.

Does the number give the bore or the outside diameter?

That depends on the family: outside diameter on stud types, bore on support rollers.

Could a standard bearing work as a roller?

We don't recommend it. A standard bearing's outer ring is not built to run on a track.

Key series

SKF NUTR Cam and Support Roller

When a machine needs a rotating support that carries both radial and axial forces, the SKF NUTR series cam and support roller is a common choice. These rollers serve as cam followers in presses and machine tools, as support rollers in linear guides, and in lifting and transport systems where rigidity and precision matter.

SKF KR PP Cam Follower Rollers

Cam follower rollers in the SKF KR PP series combine a stud-type roller bearing with a cylindrical running surface. They handle radial loads and transmit motion in cam drives, and they mount straight onto a shaft and secure with a nut. The design suits linear guiding, cam actuation and conveying equipment in industrial plants. MR Industrial Accessories supplies this SKF line and assists with part number selection.

SKF KRV PP Cam Followers

The KRV PP line from SKF covers cam followers built as cylindrical roller bearings with a crowned outer surface, intended for cam drives, guideways and support positions where radial loads are significant. Their compact envelope and ability to handle minor misalignment suit mechanisms that depend on accurate motion. MR Industrial Accessories supplies this line within its SKF bearing range.
