Mounted units with insert bearings

A mounted unit pairs a ball bearing that has a spherical outer ring with a housing made of cast iron or another material, and it goes on the machine ready to run. Thanks to the spherical seat, the insert self-aligns and takes up small shaft misalignments, and you do not have to machine a housing to install it. Conveyors, fans, pumps, mixers, food processing equipment, mining and water treatment all rely on these Y-bearing units.

A designation tells you three things: the insert type, the housing style and the size. Under the UC series convention, UCP stands for a set screw locking insert in a pillow block housing, and in UCP217D1 or UCP218-308D1 the number gives the bearing size (UCP217: 85 mm bore). Other brands use their own systems. Sealmaster part numbers such as MP-16T, MP-19T or MP-24T state the bore in sixteenths of an inch, while Browning's VPS-20 MM or VPS-35 MM state it in millimeters. For NSTU-VSC-012 (Dodge), F 204/Y (SKF), P3U240N (Link-Belt) or P2BRN042035MMZ (Rexnord), always send the complete part number.

Selection comes down to the shaft diameter, the housing style (pillow block, square or oval flange, take-up), how the insert locks to the shaft (set screws, eccentric collar or taper bushing), the housing material and the sealing your environment calls for, whether that is dust, moisture or washdown.
