A plain bearing is a cylindrical bushing that sits between a shaft and its housing to cut friction and wear, carrying radial load in rotating or oscillating motion. They come in bronze, sintered bronze and composite materials, with or without a flange. Shaft diameter, load, speed, temperature and lubrication method guide the choice.
SKF puts all three dimensions in the part number, in millimeters, two digits each: PBM 202820 M1G1 is 20 × 28 × 20 (bore, outside diameter, length) and PBM 506050 M1G1 is 50 × 60 × 50. The F in PBMF 253525 M1G1 and PBMF 304030 M1G1 marks a flanged bushing. OR-BPG-0294 K and REXNORD designations such as 701-66004-024, Duralon or Rex RPT are series-specific and must be ordered in full.
Some materials need external lubrication and others are self-lubricating, which sets the maintenance routine. Plain bearings are found in farm machinery, power transmission equipment, hydraulic systems, pivots and oscillating guides, wherever a compact solution is needed.
