The MFC unit is a bearing insert carried in a flange housing that locates itself in the seat through a machined pilot. It holds rotating shafts where the mounting face must be firm at the front and assembly kept simple, and it lets you align or swap the insert without re-machining the seat. Read the code by family and size: MFC marks the piloted flange housing, and the digits after it set the insert and housing size. MFC-15, MFC-16, MFC-19, MFC-20, MFC-23, MFC-27, MFC-28 and MFC-31 are therefore separate sizes in one series, not different seal types or materials. Quote the full part number exactly as it appears on the drawing or machine plate.

You will find these housings on belt and chain conveyors, mixers, screens, blowers, centrifugal pumps, packaging lines and aggregate processing equipment. Food, chemical and cement operations favor the piloted flange because it mounts to sheet metal or cast iron with the shaft running perpendicular to the mounting face. Humid or dusty sites running long shifts are typical service.

Selection comes down to shaft diameter, load type (radial, axial or combined) and the room around the flange. The pilot has to sit correctly in its seat, and the mounting face should be clean and flat so the insert does not run crooked. Match the insert sealing to the site: fine dust, washdown water and chips each call for different protection. Replenish insert lubrication according to the duty cycle, and check shaft alignment before you tighten the flange bolts.

On interchangeability, the SEALMASTER MFC series crosses to other piloted flange mounted bearing lines from comparable manufacturers when shaft diameter, pilot, hole spacing and flange height line up. A similar part number is not enough; the mounting dimensions must be compared.
