The Gates XPZ 1487 PowerBand is a banded V-belt from the Quad-Power 4 PowerBand series, with a length of 1487 mm. It is built for drives where several V-belts run side by side and must stay matched in service. Before fitting a replacement, inspect the drive and sheaves.

A banded belt ties its individual V-belt sections together with a top tie band, so the set stays aligned and does not whip or turn over in the groove. That makes the condition of the sheaves the first thing to check. Look for worn groove flanks, a polished or stepped groove bottom, and sheaves that no longer sit true on the shaft. A groove that has opened up lets the belt ride low and slip, and a new belt will wear quickly in a drive left in that state.

Check alignment between the driver and driven sheaves as well, since misalignment loads one side of a banded set harder than the other. Confirm the sheave grooves are clean and free of burrs, rust and buildup, and that the take-up has enough travel to tension the belt correctly.
