A spring-loaded radial shaft seal, the DBH 9318 keeps lubricant where it belongs and keeps contaminants out of rotating equipment. It has a single sealing lip and no secondary dust lip, which is what the Lx designation tells you. The size is given as shaft 17 mm, housing 38 mm and width 7.00 mm, so it presses into a housing bore and rides on the shaft.

Reading the code helps when you are matching a failed part. The three figures describe the bore it sits in and the shaft it runs against: 17 mm at the shaft, 38 mm at the housing, 7.00 mm across the width. The Lx suffix means one lip with a spring and no outer dust lip. The elastomer lip does the sealing against the rotating shaft, and the outside diameter holds the press fit in the housing.
