When a rotating shaft passes through a housing, the DBH 9000 radial shaft seal keeps lubricant in and contaminants out. This lip seal is built for a 100 mm shaft, a 150 mm housing bore and a 13 mm height, and it uses the Lx design. The Lx design describes the lip and metal case geometry. Together, these figures tell you where the seal sits: the lip rides on a 100 mm shaft, the 150 mm outer diameter presses into the machined housing, and the 13 mm height sets how far it sits in or stands out from the bore. When you replace it, match the Lx design as well as the dimensions.

If the shaft has a deep groove, you can shift the seal a few millimeters or replace the shaft. The lip compound you choose depends on the lubricant type, the working temperature and the shaft speed.
