A rotary shaft needs a barrier where it exits the housing, and the DBH 5348Sil oil seal fills that role. It keeps lubricant inside the assembly and keeps dust and moisture out. The seal fits a 50.80 mm shaft, a 69.88 mm housing bore and a 9.52 mm width, which places it in gearboxes, pumps, motors and transmission units. Because the lip eventually hardens or starts to weep, the seal is treated as a wear item and swapped for the same size or an equivalent.

The 5348Sil carries the Lx design: a metal case with a single sealing lip. Shaft 50.80 mm, housing 69.88 mm, width 9.52 mm. The case presses into the bore while the lip rides on the shaft, so the shaft surface should be ground and free of nicks or tool marks.

Before ordering, confirm the three dimensions against the original bore and shaft. Check that the shaft is hard enough and smooth enough, with no burrs or splines that could cut the lip. Lubricate the lip with the oil used in the unit, seat the seal square to the shaft and press it in without hammer blows. A worn housing may call for a larger outer diameter or a repair sleeve.
