The designation 1147 sits inside the DBH line of radial shaft seals. The numbers you need to read first are d = 122.20 mm, D = 152.40 mm and h = 27.00 mm: shaft, housing and height in that order. Design A 088 describes how the lip and the outer case are put together, and that configuration is what determines how the seal behaves once it is pressed into the housing and running against the shaft. It is a precision part, not a generic plug, so the three dimensions and the design code all have to line up with the original.

You will find seals of this type in gearboxes, pumps, electric motors, rollers and other power transmission assemblies. Food processing, cement, mining and general process plants are typical settings, because shafts there turn in air that carries dust, moisture or washdown water. Choosing the right one comes down to shaft speed, the temperature the seal will see and the lubricant in use. Installation decides how long the seal lasts. Inspect the shaft for burrs, scratches or wear and make sure the housing bore is clean and free of damage before anything goes in. Put a film of the same oil or grease the equipment uses on the lip. The 27.00 mm height has to sit correctly in the housing depth, otherwise the seal can distort. If the shaft has splines, keyways or grooves, a wear sleeve is worth considering. Press the seal in axially and evenly, and never hit the lip directly.
