SKF tools for mounting and maintenance

SKF mounting and maintenance tools cover three stages of bearing work: mounting, dismounting and alignment. Every series begins with T and groups tools for one task, with sizes and accessories ordered on their own. Settle on the operation before you look for a part number, since a word like puller or heater can mean very different equipment.

Each series stands for a task

TMMP 2X65 and TMMP 3X185 are mechanical jaw pullers. The first figure is how many arms it has, and the second relates to the size of part it can reach. These are two separate models rather than two sizes of one tool, and their spare parts add a hyphen and another number.

TMAS 50-010 is a machinery shim for alignment, and its part number combines shim size and thickness. TMBR NU210 is an aluminum heating ring used to mount the inner ring of a cylindrical roller bearing; the end of the part number repeats that bearing's designation. Reading part numbers this way keeps you from ordering an accessory when you meant the full tool.

Pick by the part and the access you have

When dismounting, start by checking where you can grip the part. A jaw puller works if there is room behind the bearing; otherwise you need a different kind of tool. Measure the part's outside diameter, how deep it sits and the free space around it. A puller that is too small for the part will spread and score the shaft.

When mounting, it comes down to how the bearing fits. A ring with an interference fit on the shaft gets heated; a ring that fits in the housing gets pressed in with a tool bearing on that ring. Hit the wrong ring and the force goes through the rolling elements, damaging the new bearing. For alignment, you choose shims by the size of the machine foot and the anchor bolt.

What to include in your request

Send the full part number of the tool or spare part. If you don't have it, describe the job: what part you are mounting or removing, its dimensions, whether you grip it from the outside or inside, and how much room you have. For heaters, give the bore, weight and type of the largest bearing you work with. For shims, the foot width, bolt diameter and the thicknesses you use most.

Does a part number ending in a hyphen mean a full tool?

Often it is a spare part or accessory. Check before you order.

Can I use any three-arm puller?

It depends on reach and spread. Measure the part and the space around it first.

Does one TMBR ring fit several bearings?

No, each ring matches one bearing designation, and the part number shows which.

SKF TMMP Mechanical Puller Series

The SKF TMMP is a jaw-type mechanical puller built for taking off bearings, pulleys, gears and similar parts that sit on a shaft with an interference fit. A screw works against a set of jaws so the pulling force stays under control and the component comes away intact. MR Industrial Accessories supplies this line within its range of mounting and maintenance tools.
