SKF solid-base split pillow block housings: SSNLD and SSNHD

SKF solid-base housings are the heavy-duty version of the split pillow block housing. Instead of slotted anchor holes, the base is solid and gets drilled to match the structure it mounts on. The material is stronger than the gray cast iron used in standard housings, for heavy loads, shock, or forces that do not push straight down into the base.

Reading SSNLD, SSNHD and the suffix

SSNLD 510-608 keeps the double number used on split housings, meaning one body fits two bearing sizes. SSNHD 510-608 is the counterpart in the SNH series. Size reads exactly as on the standard series, so the bearing, sleeve and seals match those of a regular housing with the same number.

The block after the slash tells you how the base is prepared. SSNLD 510-608/MS1 and SSNLD 216/MS2 come with anchor holes already drilled, in two different patterns; without that block the base is undrilled. Because it changes the installation work, copy it.

When a solid base makes sense

A standard housing is built for load directed into the base. When the load pulls up, comes from the side or arrives as shock, the cap, bolts and base are stressed differently, and the reinforced housing has the extra capacity. You will see it on heavy conveyors, crushers, large fans and equipment with rough starts.

An undrilled base lets you locate the anchors where your structure needs them and choose two or four bolts. The trade-off is careful drilling: keep the holes in the area the manufacturer specifies and support the housing well, so you do not weaken the base or distort the bearing seat.

Information for your quote

Send the full designation, including any /MS block, and the quantity. Tell us the bearing, the sleeve and the shaft diameter, which direction the load acts and whether there is shock. If it replaces a standard housing, include the old designation and the dimensions of the existing anchors; that helps decide between a drilled and an undrilled base.

Does it take the same accessories as an SNL?

At the same number, yes. Bearing, sleeve, seals and rings are selected the same way.

What do /MS1 and /MS2 mean?

The base comes with anchor holes, in one of two patterns. With no block, it is undrilled.

Should I always choose the reinforced housing?

It pays off with heavy loads, shock, or loads that do not act toward the base.

SKF SSNLD Split Housing

The SKF SSNLD is a solid-base split housing that holds and locates a bearing inside rotating machinery. Because it comes in two halves, it can be opened and closed again with the shaft left in place, which keeps maintenance work short. Conveyors, mills, pumps and fans are typical places where this housing is found. MR Industrial Accessories LLC supplies this SKF line to customers in the United States and Latin America.

SKF SSNLD Split Plummer Block Housing

The SKF SSNLD is a split plummer block housing with a solid base, built to hold and locate bearings on rotating shafts. Because it opens in two halves, it can be installed or removed without pulling the shaft, which keeps maintenance work shorter. Belt conveyors, mills, pumps and industrial fans are common applications. MR Industrial Accessories supplies this line and can help you match the right variant to your equipment.
